Leeds United could be set to swoop in on a Premier League rival desperate for additional funds…

What’s the latest?

That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Victor Orta has already enquired to Everton about the availability of Mason Holgate.

With Lyon also interested, it could spark an interesting transfer battle for this January.

Frank Lampard boasts an abundance of central defenders and could look to offload some of his fringe players to afford himself some spending.

However, the Whites should be looking at a much higher calibre of player should they want to pull away from the Toffees, who sit just one point behind them.

Another Firpo disaster

Although he has established himself as a respectable Premier League defender since his move in 2015, he boasts too many downsides to make him a smart option for Jesse Marsch.

Especially considering the disaster he has currently been burdened with in Junior Firpo, which has turned out horribly.

Having signed for £12.8m, the former FC Barcelona full-back was expected to fix all their woes in an area crying out for a revamp.

However, he has only added to the problem, with his recklessness and defensive frailties making him unplayable. He is averaging a 6.30 rating this season and, as such, Pascal Struijk has been deputising in his position despite being a centre-back.

The same could happen should the Yorkshire outfit swoop for Holgate, who Sky Sports journalist Ron Walker outlined for his “really bad decision” that led to a goal last year.

His poor performances last season played a huge role in dragging his side into a relegation battle, as he only managed a 6.65 average rating.

As such, Lampard felt inclined to go and purchase two new centre-backs over the summer, which has seen his play time dwindle.

Whilst the £70k-per-week dud does boast the physical assets to succeed at the back, it seems that he switches off too often and is far too prone to mistakes, just like the one Walker referenced earlier.

As such, bringing him in would hardly solve any solutions, and he is unlikely to revolutionise their back four that has already conceded 26 times in just 14 games.
