Anthony Martial continues to frustrate Man United fans on Twitter

Though the Europa League was supposed to provide Manchester United with a welcome distraction from their labouring Premier League form, though last night’s draw with Anderlecht proved a familiar story.

Though the Red Devils had chances to kill off their Belgian hosts, as well as restricting them to just one shot in the first 85 minutes, they conceded in the 86th to allow the home side back into the tie.

Jose Mourinho has since criticised his ‘sloppy’ forwards for their failure to convert chances, something that’s proved to be rather thematic over the course of the season thus far. Outside of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, United’s forwards have struggled to wholly convince this term, relying far too heavily on the superstar Swede.

“We had control, we had chances, but we do not score enough goals.

“In my poor English, I cannot find a better word than sloppy. You have to play more seriously.”

Indeed, Anthony Martial is enduring a poor second season with the club. Having made such an impact following his hugely expensive move from Monaco last summer, the Frenchman has failed to embark on the upward trajectory he set himself on last season.

One of the most prodigious talents in Europe, the 21-year-old has seen his progress stall under Mourinho’s stewardship. While young players, particularly ones who operate in wide positions, should be given time to develop, United fans on Twitter have reacted angrily to another poor performance last night.

Here’s a closer look at exactly how.
