It is common practice for footballers to thank their former clubs when they move on, and on this occasion, Kevin Wimmer's farewell note to Tottenham Hotspur seemed to come from the heart.

The Austrian defender was only at the North London outfit for two years, but he has mentioned how he developed on and off the pitch during that time.

Wimmer struggled to get a game under his belt, featuring in just 15 Premier League matches for Spurs.

With Mauricio Pochettino's team boasting a centre-back partnership of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, it was always going to be difficult for Wimmer to break into the fold.

The 24-year-old feels that now is the time to join another club, and on Tuesday it was announced that he had signed for Stoke City on a five-year contract for an £18m fee.

Before embarking on his new career at the Premier League club, Wimmer posted a heartfelt message to Tottenham fans on Instagram.
