Manchester United have announced today that Michael Carrick will receive a testimonial in the summer - celebrating his long and successful spell at the club.

The English midfielder has been at the club for over 10 years and is widely regarded even now as one of the best passers of the ball in the Premier League.

Indeed, arguably the most natural successor the club has had to Paul Scholes, Carrick has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Old Trafford with the Champions League in 2008 and multiple Premier League titles to look back on.

He may even be at the club next season should a contract be sorted out but in the meantime this fixture will give the Old Trafford faithful a proper chance to pay tribute to a very classy footballer.
