Tottenham fans have been sharing their feelings about Toby Alderweireld’s potential departure, and it seems like a pretty even split amongst fans.
Alderweireld has been a fan favourite at Spurs since he arrived from Atletico Madrid in 2015. The Belgian international formed part of the best back four in the Premier League until recently, alongside Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose.
Spurs now face the prospect of keeping just one of that incredible backline, with Danny Rose’s future uncertain and Alderweireld now looking like he’s on his way out as well.
Alderweireld’s contract runs out in the summer of 2020, but Spurs are not bowing to the Belgian’s wage demands, refusing to budge on their £100,000-a-week offer. According to reports, Spurs are now looking to sell the 29 year-old rather than lose him for nothing next summer.
PSG and Real Madrid are lining up summer swoops for the Belgian, but there is also interest from within the Premier League, particularly from Manchester.
Spurs fans have been reacting to the links, and fans can’t decide if they’d bow to his demands or not. One thing is for certain, they are desperate not to give him to a Premier League rival.
Some of the best Twitter reactions can be found below…
Doesn’t seem likely he’ll sign a new deal, but we cannot afford to sell Alderweireld to another Premier League club. Sold Walker to City last summer and now he’s (more or less) won the league already – cannot do the same again. It would look awful on the club if we did.

Selling him in general is idiotic. Him and Jan are the 2 best CBs in the league. Sanchez still has some learning to do. But yes, selling to a rival would be even worse.

Sold Walker and people told me we wouldn’t miss him because we had Trippier. Poch was so convinced that he bought Aurier… who we gonna end up with after Toby, Mr Bean?

Why does Levy get stick and not Toby? Toby won't sign a new contract. He's replaceable.

Don't cry about it, Evans is decent and Sanchez is sick. Have faith, we'll be alright
