Everton’s Gueye tops Premier League tackling charts

Plenty of pundits and fans alike have waxed lyrical about N’Golo Kante’s defensive qualities since making the move from Leicester City to Chelsea in the summer.

Well, there is one man in the Premier League who has a better record this season when it comes to tackling.

That man is Idrissa Gueye, who according to The Express has made 101 tackles so far, which is more than any other player in the top division.

Of course, Kante is not far behind as he sits second in the list with 94 tackles, while Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson (88), Stoke City’s Erik Pieters (84) and Oriol Romeu of Southampton (82) make up the top five.

Gueye joined Everton in the summer after his former club Aston Villa were relegated to the Championship, and it has proven to be a positive transfer for the 27-year-old.

The Senegal midfielder has started 22 Premier League games this season and has even contributed with one goal and an assist.

It is understandable then that Arsenal have been registered with an interest. According to The Sun, Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing Gueye to the Emirates at the end of the season.
