Real Madrid want Fabregas, selling would be good for Chelsea

Spanish giants Real Madrid are eyeing a surprise move for Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas this summer, according to Spanish outlet Diario Gol.

What’s the word?

Cesc Fabregas has found opportunities limited at Chelsea this season following Antonio Conte’s appointment in the summer, with the Italian boss favouring N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic as his first-choice midfield pairing, and the Spanish midfielder could now be offered an escape route.

Surprisingly, Real Madrid want to bring the former Barcelona man back to La Liga as Zinedine Zidane wants to sign a playmaker with ‘Barcelona DNA’– something Fabregas has in abundance, having trained at the club as a youngster and playing three-seasons at the Nou Camp before moving to Chelsea.

Such a move would raise question-marks on the future of current Real Madrid midfielders Isco and James Rodriguez, who could then move away from the Santiago Bernabeu, and that seems likely given that Chelsea would be wise to sell.

Should Chelsea sell?

Definitely. Cesc Fabregas doesn’t fit Antonio Conte’s system at Stamford Bridge as he’s far too good a player to sit on the bench every week. On top of that, the Blues would get a decent sum for his services and could use that cash to strengthen in other areas.

Fabregas himself may want another crack in Spanish football, having failed to impress thoroughly during his spell in Catalonia, and the potential stumbling block of playing for Barcelona’s arch-rivals probably won’t bother Fabregas too much, seeming he snubbed Arsenal for Chelsea when he returned to the Premier League.

All in all, it makes sense for both Chelsea and Fabregas himself, although Real Madrid’s interest in the player is certainly surprising as there is better players out there.
