Aston Villa have been very active in the January transfer market as they look to bolster their squad for a push up the table in the second-half of the season, with the target of sealing an immediate return to the Premier League.
Currently sat eight points off the play-offs, Villa have fought back from a slow start to the season and have found a new lease of life under Steve Bruce. With their new bosses’ first venture into the transfer market this month, Villa look like a very good side.
Conor Hourihane joins fellow January recruits Sam Johnstone, James Bree, Birkir Bjarnason and Henri Lansbury at Villa Park but the stats suggest the arrival of the the Barnsley skipper could be the most crucial.

With the most assists, most tackles, most goals from direct free-kicks and most Man of the Matches out of any Championship player this season, the 25-year-old should provide a huge boost to Villa’s push- especially as he’s also found the net six times.
