Stats show why losing Aguero would be huge blow to Manchester City

Rumours are swirling that Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero could be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium.

Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal are reported to be sniffing around, while the Daily Mail claims that French giants Paris Saint-Germain are keen on the Argentine.

The speculation has stemmed from Aguero’s recent spell out of Pep Guardiola’s first team, with Brazilian new boy Gabriel Jesus taking his spot.

The 19-year-old, who signed for City last summer from Palmeiras for a fee thought to be around £27m, has scored three goals and provided one assist in four games since officially joining up with his new team in January.

When a player of Aguero’s calibre is resigned to a spot on the substitutes bench, alarm bells start ringing, but the Daily Mail reports that the club have no plans to sell him.

Even so, City’s stance is unlikely to deter potential suitors if the interest is genuine, and if a mammoth offer comes in, perhaps they will listen.

The statistics do not lie, though, and WhoScored has shown what a huge miss Aguero would be to the North-West outfit if he left the two-time Premier League champions.

As the tweet above shows, the former Atletico Madrid hitman has scored an impressive 90 league goals over the past five seasons, which is more than any other player.

Interestingly, Everton forward Romelu Lukaku comes closest with 76 goals, but that is still 14 fewer than the Argentine, who is on a 15-goal tally in all competitions so far this season.
