This is why West Bromwich Albion extended Chris Brunt’s contract

West Bromwich Albion announced on Thursday that long-serving stalwart Chris Brunt has signed a new deal at The Hawthorns, staying at the club until 2018 at least. Depending on appearances made in the 2017/18 season, his contract could automatically extend until the summer of 2019.

It’s news that has been well received by Baggies fans, who are delighted to see one of their most consistent performers commit his future to the club.

The versatile wide man has been in excellent form this season, scoring three and assisting three more since his return to the side from a long-term injury in October.

It’s a typical contribution from the Northern Ireland international, as these figures from Opta show.

Contributing directly to 66 goals in 331 appearances is a decent return from the midfielder considering he’s deputised a fair number of times at full-back. Importantly, it’s more than anyone else has contributed to the club over the last decade, a reliability that is so important to a club seeking a consistent finish in the English Premier League.

Baggies fans will be hoping to see their star man on top form this Saturday when their side visit West Ham at the London Stadium.
