As the transfer clock ticks down towards Thursday night’s deadline, the rumour mill has gone into overdrive.
On Tuesday, numerous media outlets, including The Guardian, reported that Manchester City are willing to part with Raheem Sterling in a deal that would see Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez move the other way.
The two-time Premier League champions have been linked with a swoop for Sanchez for some time.
As it stands, the Chile international will be seeing out the final year of his contract at the Emirates as he has opted against signing a new one, and the club have publicly insisted that he is not for sale.
It seems that City are trying to test Arsenal’s resolve by putting forward a player-plus-cash deal including Sterling, who The Guardian claims has been told that he can leave this week.
There have been no indications that manager Pep Guardiola is unhappy with the England international’s contribution given that he has scored two goals in his first three Premier League outings of the season.
However, these latest reports suggest that Sterling could be the one to go if an agreement is reached between both parties.
As expected, Arsenal fans have been discussing the latest development.
Still think Arsenal should just accept sterling plus cash for Sanchez we will lose him on a free next year #afc

Would quite happily take sterling and mahrez right now, bin off the dead weight and refresh the team #afc

Sterling is being underrated by #AFC fans imo. He can't replace Alexis but get him and Mahrez and I think it's the best of a bad situation.

Sterling is not the player we need; too inconsistent and far from the finished article…we'd play him lwb as well. Reject & keep Sanchez!

City to make a bid which will include sterling this isn't a good deal sterling will only replace Chamberlain not Sanchez #AFC
