Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has not held back on his assessment of Arsenal supporters, and as expected, plenty are angry with the remarks.

During an ESPN broadcast, the 45-year-old accused the fans of being "spineless" and accepting the "mediocrity" being shown on the pitch by the players.

It has been a tough week for Arsenal fans as far as criticism goes, as ex-Manchester United captain Gary Neville branded one supporter an "idiot" for holding up an anti-Arsene Wenger sign during last weekend's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.

Plenty of the North London club's following are frustrated with the club's lack of progress, particularly as they have not won a Premier League title for 13 years.

Burley, who played for Chelsea for eight years during his career, was very animated when describing the attitude of Arsenal supporters this season. He said:

"I'm telling you, Arsenal fans: you are spineless. You are the mirror image of your team: weak, mentally weak. They follow their club across Europe and up and down the country in England, and they accept the mediocrity - and it is mediocrity, by a club of that standard, getting in the top four.

"Wenger at the moment - one: he's getting paid well, and two: he's either too ignorant or arrogant, to think he should not be moving on."

Fans have taken to Twitter to slam Burley for his criticism, with many poking fun at the ex-midfielder's playing career, suggesting that he has no right to judge.
