It is 22 years to the day since Arsenal signed a certain Dutch forward Dennis Bergkamp from Inter Milan.

Having come through the youth system at Ajax, Bergkamp scored a staggering 103 goals in 183 league appearances for the Dutch outfit before joining Inter in the summer of 1993.

Eleven goals arrived in 52 Serie A appearances for Inter, before Arsenal paid £7.5m in 1995 to sign the Netherlands international.

It would be fair to say that Bergkamp, who is now assistant manager at Ajax, enjoyed an impressive 11-year spell at Arsenal, managing 120 goals in 423 appearances - landing three Premier League titles and three FA Cup trophies in the process.

The forward's best scoring season at Highbury came during the 1997-98 campaign, when he managed 22 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions.

On Tuesday, Arsenal's Twitter account posted a tribute to the now 48-year-old, and unsurprisingly, a flurry of praise followed as the club's supporters acknowledged one of the best players to ever represent the London outfit.
