With just five games of their season remaining, we still don’t know whether Arsenal will finish the campaign trophy-less, sneak their way into the top four, lose Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil during the summer or appoint a new manager.
Indeed, Arsene Wenger’s contract is winding down and the Gunners gaffer has consistently refused to shed light on his future, despite it seemingly hanging over virtually every Arsenal game during the last few months like a large and particularly gloomy dark cloud.
One suggestion that has proved popular amongst some sections of the Arsenal fan base is bringing in a Director of Football, who can provide the ruthlessness and ambition Wenger has often lacked in the transfer market – allowing Le Prof to focus on training and tactics.
The subject of a Director of Football was brought up in Wenger’s press conference earlier today, ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Southampton on Wednesday, and needless to say, the Emirates boss wasn’t too keen on the idea…
Doesn’t seem like Wenger is overly keen on a Director of Football at Arsenal… pic.twitter.com/QLJOcYK3bj

Wenger and the Arsenal fan-base really aren’t seeing eye-to-eye at the minute and perhaps as a consequence, Gunners supporters on Twitter weren’t impressed by the way the Frenchman outright dismissed the notion…
@ArsenalFanTV How about, someone who makes life easy for you. Name the players you want, it becomes his job to get em. Yours? Team focus, tactics.

I like Wenger but his comments on the possibility of a Director of Football today were quite stupid https://t.co/oJjhvCRvmq

So basically if we hire a director of football Wenger will go. Don’t think it can be any clearer than that.

Wenger doesn’t know what a director of football is? Just shows you how far behind the modern game he is #WengerOut
