Arsenal have endured a difficult start to 2017, with the Gunners failing to impress and seeing their season implode in the last week-and-a-half, losing back-to-back matches against Watford and Chelsea.
With only the FA Cup left to really play for, as even the most optimistic Arsenal fan will not fancy their chances of overcoming Bayern Munich next week, the Gunners campaign has gone from impressive, following their remarkable unbeaten run in the first-half of the season, to disappointing.
Arsenal fans have not only had to endure watching their side struggle but their problems come amidst great form for arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who look to be Chelsea’s closest competitors in the title race and capable of challenging for more honours in the coming years.
Whilst the Gunners have historically enjoyed an advantage over Spurs, the balance in power may now be shifting and former Arsenal star Paul Merson, who spent 12-years with the club, certainly believes that is the case.

Speaking to Sky Bet, Merson stated his belief that only Alexis Sanchez would get in a North London XI from the Gunners, with the remaining ten players all coming from White Hart Lane.
It’s certainly a bold statement, with Mesut Ozil, Hector Bellerin and Laurent Koscielny amongst those missing out, and some Arsenal fans have reacted angrily on social media.
