Arsenal decided to open up the memory bank by reminding fans on Twitter that five years ago today they signed Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.
While plenty of supporters took the opportunity to praise the Frenchman, others called for his departure.
Giroud dropped down the pecking order last season, with manager Arsene Wenger using him more as a bit-part player rather than a starter up front.
In total, the striker made 29 Premier League appearances, but he started just 11 of them.
Giroud, who ended the campaign with 12 goals and three assists in the top flight, could be returning to France this summer if the latest media reports are anything to go by.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed to L’Equipe at the weekend that contact had been made regarding a transfer, which could then open the doors to Alexandre Lacazette moving in the other direction.
Judging by the responses to Arsenal’s throwback tweet, plenty of fans would be happy to replace Giroud with the Frenchman.
