It is always risky business when clubs tweet about anything other than transfer news at this stage of the year, especially for those with such a gigantic following on social media.
Arsenal’s official Twitter account posted a message which started ‘Welcome to Colney…’, on Wednesday afternoon, which a number of supporters would have liked to have been followed with ‘… Thomas Lemar’.
Indeed, Arsenal have reportedly made a £26.4m bid for AS Monaco attacker Lemar after becoming frustrated in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.
It is still early days in Arsenal’s pursuit of Lemar, but it would be fair to say that the Gunners have more chance of landing the 21-year-old than Mbappe, who continues to be linked with a big-money transfer to Real Madrid.
With the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil still up in the air, Arsenal fans are desperate for their club to announce a new signing ahead of pre-season, and calls for Lemar were extremely strong on social media on Wednesday afternoon.
