Aston Villa fans divided as Dr Tony Xia quashes Danny Batth rumour

Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia took to his official Twitter account on Saturday to rubbish earlier reports in the Daily Mail that the club is tracking Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Danny Batth.

The Daily Mail had reported on Saturday that Villa, along with Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City, were interested in the 26-year-old, who looks to have fallen down the pecking order at Molineux following the summer arrivals of Willy Boly and Roderick Miranda.

Batth scored four goals in 41 league appearances for Wolves last season and the report says he was a target for Villa, which made sense after they sold Nathan Baker to Bristol City earlier this week.

With John Terry, Christopher Samba, Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards as their centre-back options – and with the future of the latter duo far from certain – it would be no surprise to see Steve Bruce’s men swoop for a new central defender in the coming weeks.

Aston Villa supporters were quick to respond to Xia’s tweet via social media, and they were divided on their opinions of Batth despite their chairman effectively confirming the story is nothing more than a rumour.
