Aston Villa kept pace with the teams above them in the English Championship on Saturday with a hard fought 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Villa Park.

Steve Bruce's side have now won their last four matches in the division and finish the day in seventh, just one point behind the play-off positions.

Jonathan Kodija was the hero of the day for the Villans, converting a 39th minute penalty after being felled in the box by Bolton man Mark Beevers.

It wasn't a pretty victory but as long as Bruce's team continue to rack up the points, fans will remain hopeful that they can piece together a season that will see them push for promotion back to the English Premier League.

One player that stood out for supporters was summer signing Robert Snodgrass. Joining on loan from West Ham in August, the Scottish international has had mixed form in the early part of his spell at the club but a goal mid-week against Burton Albion could be the start of him showing real consistency after he again impressed vs Bolton.
