Aston Villa advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night as they recorded a comfortable 4-1 win against Wigan Athletic at Villa Park, with the home faithful particularly impressed with the performance of Jake Doyle-Hayes.
Villa boss Steve Bruce made 11 changes to his side from the one that beat Norwich City 4-2 at the weekend, and the 18-year-old midfielder was one of a number of youngsters to get game time.
The Irishman started in the middle of the park and was confident on the ball, while he played a number of passes and through-balls into the channels for his teammates against the League One outfit.
Villa supporters were quick to have their say on the showing of the teenager via social media, with many believing that he bossed the midfield and others convinced that he was the best player on the pitch.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction….
How impressive were Jake Doyle-Hayes, Mitch Clark and Cal O'Hare last night. Jake bossed it in the middle #avfc

Doyle-Hayes MOTM for me tonight. Kept the ball ticking over in midfield, passed it on the deck & played a few nice through balls. #AVFC
