Aston Villa fans react as Birmingham line up Tommy Elphick move

According to The Mirror, via the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa centre-back Tommy Elphick is a transfer target for local and Championship rivals Birmingham City.

The two clubs have already gone head-to-head in the race to sign John Terry this summer, and now it appears as though Blues manager Harry Redknapp wants to sign the 29-year-old as an alternative to the former Chelsea and England captain.

Elphick endured a tough first season at Villa Park after being signed by Roberto Di Matteo last summer, and he fell out of favour when the Italian was sacked and replaced by Steve Bruce, losing his role as skipper to James Chester.

Aston Villa supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, with many keen on selling Elphick to their arch-rivals as they don’t feel he is good enough to be featuring for them.

However, there were some that would rather keep the former Bournemouth man, and sell Micah Richards instead.
