Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce lost out to Bristol City’s Lee Johnson for the Sky Bet Championship September Manager of the Month award when it was announced on Friday morning, and Villa fans were not impressed.

Despite winning four and drawing two of their six league fixtures throughout the month – scoring 10 and conceding just one in the process – Bruce was overlooked for the award in favour of Johnson, who led the Robins to the same amount of points but with a slightly worse goal difference.
Having endured a tough start to the campaign, Villa have now recorded four successive victories in England’s second tier and they finally look to be living up their bill as one of the pre-season favourites for promotion.
Aston Villa supporters were quick to have their say on the news via social media, and while some simply questioned how Bruce hadn’t won the award, others were frustrated as they wanted him “to finally get some credit” for turning the Midlands outfit’s season around.
