According to reports on the Daily Telegraph, Aston Villa have stepped up their bid to sign John Terry by making a concrete offer for the former Chelsea and England captain.

The 36-year-old is a free agent after being released by the Blues at the end of his contract this summer, and he is a target for a number of clubs including Villa, Birmingham City, Bournemouth, Swansea City and clubs in the Chinese Super League.

Villa are serious about bringing Terry to the Championship as they look to win promotion back to the Premier League next season, and they have offered him a lucrative deal worth £4m-a-year according to the Daily Telegraph.

Aston Villa supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, and they are largely divided on their opinions of the former Three Lions skipper.

While some believe he is a “footballing legend” and “world-class”, others believe it would be the wrong decision to sign him.
