Aston Villa picked up their fourth consecutive Championship victory as they beat bottom-of-the-table Bolton Wanderers 1-0 at Villa Park on Saturday, but Villa fans weren't impressed with Glenn Whelan's performance.

Steve Bruce's men have recovered well from a disappointing start to the season and the 4-4-2 formation they have been playing since they beat Barnsley earlier this month came up trumps again against the Trotters.

Jonathan Kodjia's penalty late in the first half proved to be the difference between the two sides, with the hosts' Neil Taylor seeing red late on for a foul on Adam Le Fondre.

Whelan certainly hasn’t been a popular figure among the Villa Park faithful following his summer move from Stoke City, and Aston Villa supporters were quick to have their say on his showing via social media.

While some said that he was "a liability", others feel that he is the "only player who hasn’t performed" during the upturn in the Midlands outfit's form.
