Aston Villa’s disappointing start to the Championship season continued as they were held to a goalless draw by Brentford at Villa Park on Saturday, and Villa fans were particularly unimpressed with the performance of James Bree at right-back.

Steve Bruce’s men came into the fixture against the Bees having bounced back from taking one point from a possible nine at the start of the campaign by taking four from their previous two games, but they struggled to make much of an impact against Dean Smith’s side.

The Midlands outfit had just one shot on target all afternoon and in truth they had goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to thank for helping them get a point.

Bree had been handed a rare start at right-back by Bruce with Alan Hutton missing out on a place in the squad having only just returned from injury, but the 19-year-old perhaps didn’t make the most of the opportunity he had been given.

Aston Villa supporters were quick to have their say on his showing via social media, with some describing his performance as a "joke" and others saying he simply "isn’t good enough".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
