Aston Villa fans still fed up with Agbonlahor despite derby winner

A handful of Aston Villa supporters are not prepared to change their negative views of Gabriel Agbonlahor, despite the forward scoring the winner in Sunday’s Second City derby.

It was a huge match between the Midlands rivals, particularly as Harry Redknapp had been appointed the new Birmingham City manager just days prior.

The visitors to Villa Park created more goalscoring changes – six to their opponents’ four – but both teams only had one shot on target.

Fortunately for Villa fans, that one shot resulted in the only goal of the game, which gave the team all three points as well as bragging rights.

Agbonlahor was the man to break the deadlock in the 68th minute, and after the match, manager Steve Bruce told BBC Sport that the forward needs to earn himself a new contract.

The goal was an important one, but it was also Agbonlahor’s first in 14 months.

The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park, and has only featured in 12 Championship games, just four of which were starts.

Despite the highs of beating Birmingham, some fans are not getting carried away with Agbonlahor’s contribution.
