Aston Villa recorded their third straight Championship victory as they thrashed Burton Albion 4-0 at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night, but Villa fans were still unimpressed with the performance of midfielder Glenn Whelan.

The Republic of Ireland international once again took his place alongside Conor Hourihane in the middle of the park for the visitors in what was a reasonably comfortable night from a defensive point of view, with Keinan Davis, Albert Adomah and Robert Snodgrass giving Steve Bruce's men a 3-0 half-time lead.

However, Whelan was guilty of needlessly losing possession on a number of occasions before the interval, which wouldn't have pleased Bruce or the travelling faithful as they look to keep as many clean sheets as possible.

Aston Villa supporters were quick to have their say on his showing via social media, and while some simply questioned how bad the 33-year-old is, others described him as "horrific".
