Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that he has spoken to Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho about the prospect of bringing goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to the club permanently.

The Red Devils allowed the 24-year-old stopper to move to the Championship outfit on loan until the end of the season in January, and now Bruce is keen to bring him to the Midlands on a permanent basis after he impressed between the sticks.
Johnstone only extended his contract for another two years with United in October, suggesting that Mourinho believes he has a future at Old Trafford.
It could mean that Villa will have to pay a sizeable fee if they are to convince the Portuguese boss to sell this summer.
Aston Villa were quick to give their thoughts on their Bruce’s comments via social media and while they are keen for Johnstone to come back, others believe that he isn’t worth more than £5m.
