Aston Villa will round off a disappointing Championship campaign when they host title-chasing Brighton and Hove Albion at Villa Park on Sunday.
Villa had been one of the pre-season favourites for promotion following their relegation from the Premier League last season, but a poor start to the campaign under former manager Roberto Di Matteo – as well as a disappointing run of results at the start of 2017 – mean that the highest they can finish is 11th position, while they could still end up as low as 14th.
Manager Steve Bruce already knew that he would be missing top goalscorer Jonathan Kodjia for the visit of the Seagulls, who know they can wrap up the Championship title if they win or match Newcastle United’s result, after he broke his ankle in the defeat to Blackburn Rovers last weekend.
However, the former Hull City boss has also confirmed that he will be without a number of other key men, and Villa supporters are less than optimistic ahead of their final fixture.
