Everton were roundly praised for their summer spending after parting with more than £100m on a handful of new signings, including Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney. However, the club’s post-season activity has not reflected onto the pitch, as Ronald Koeman’s side are struggling for results. They have secured just one win out of their five Premier League games, and that was on the opening weekend of the campaign when Rooney’s goal sealed a 1-0 triumph over Stoke City.Since then, the Merseyside outfit have drawn with Manchester City and lost to Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. It has not been the kindest of fixture lists for Everton, but the most concerning part has been the performances from Koeman’s team. The Toffees headed into Sunday’s clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on the back of a disappointing Europa League group opener against Atalanta, in which they lost 3-0.Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who played for Everton’s enemies Liverpool for 17 years, believes that Everton’s performance against the Red Devils was an improvement on previous games, but there is a big problem that they need to tackle.
