When a footballer announces his retirement, it is common for his ex-teammates to send their best wishes on social media.Jamie Carragher attempted to do that on Wednesday when Jose Enrique confirmed that he will be hanging up his boots. However, the ex-Liverpool centre-back quickly discovered that he was blocked from accessing the Spaniard's account.

It is uncertain why Carragher has been given the boot by Enrique, but in the closing stages of the full-back's career at Anfield, he was regularly criticised for his overuse of social media.

The 31-year-old spent five years at Liverpool and made 99 appearances before dropping down the pecking order and leaving Merseyside in 2016.

The Spaniard, who had a four-year spell at Newcastle United before joining the Reds, played alongside Carragher for two years before the former England international retired.

Judging by Enrique's decision to block his ex-teammate on Twitter, it is safe to say that the pair did not form a strong bond away from the pitch.
