Celtic announced on their official website on Friday that midfielder Stuart Armstrong had signed a two-year extension to his contract, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2019.
The 25-year-old had been linked with a £6m move to Swansea City earlier this month with Southampton also credited with an interest in the same report, and Celtic likely would have cashed in on the Scotland international if he had refused to commit his future to the Bhoys.
Armstrong made a huge impression last season for Brendan Rodgers’ men and he ended the campaign having scored 17 goals and provided a further seven assists in 47 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants.
Celtic supporters were quick to have their say on the new deal via social media, with some not happy that the extension means that they will be in the same situation next summer, while others believe he may even be gone by then.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Some effort there for a 1 year extension 🙄

Only 2 years puts us in the exact same position next summer. Looks like he's going to be off in January but at least we'll get a bigger fee.

Certainly chucked his toys out the pram. He's alright at this level – will struggle to play any higher. Celtic should have shown him the 🚪

So we are going to have this same issue next summer?

2 year deal for me shows he wants to leave so for me sell him good player but that to me doesn't show him wanting to stay

More of a Celtic want cash for Armstrong deal than he's staying long term. Don't expect him to be here next season.
