Celtic came up against former transfer target Henry Onyekuru when they beat Anderlecht 3-0 in the Champions League in Belgium on Wednesday night, and Bhoys fans are glad they didn’t sign the winger.
The Scottish Premiership giants were interested in signing the Nigeria international earlier this year following an impressive season with KAS Eupen last term, but the in-demand forward instead chose to join Premier League side Everton during the summer transfer window, before the Toffees loaned him to Anderlecht for regular playing time.
The 20-year-old started on the left wing against Brendan Rodgers’ men, but he failed to make much of an impact in the final third as goals from Leigh Griffiths, Patrick Roberts and Scott Sinclair gave the visitors a comfortable victory.
Celtic supporters were quick to have their say on Onyekuru’s performance via social media, with some saying they had “dodged a bullet” by missing out on the Nigerian, and others saying they were glad the club didn’t “splash the cash” on him.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Glad we didn’t pay over the odds for that Onyekuru fella

That Onyekuru would've been a good addition to our squad.

Based on this game, thank god we didn't splash the cash on that Henry Onyekuru boy… £7mil?

Onyekuru really showed us what we were missing out on like he claimed he’d do
