Celtic face Rangers in less than a week, so the time for a referee controversy to dominate headlines in Scotland couldn't come at a more dramatic time.

It's all stemmed from a penalty decision at the end of the Hoops' game away to Ross County on Sunday, a match they were leading 2-1 with just minutes remaining when Don Robertson blew his whistle.

Erik Sviatchenko was judged to have tripped Ross County attack Alex Schalk but replays showed that not only was it a blatant dive but that the Celtic defender was nowhere near making contact and that both the referee and his assistant had a good view of the incident. Liam Boyce subsequently fired home the penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw for the Staggies.

The game spilled over at that point and a late challenge from Scott Brown on penalty taker Boyce produced a red card from Robertson that threatened to rule the midfielder out of next week's game against Rangers. The club have since appealed meaning he will be able to play at Hampden.

To say the entire affair angered Celtic fans is an understatement and they took to Twitter to share their disgust and also call for some drastic measures...
