Any glimmer of hope that Southampton would do Tottenham Hotspur a favour in the Premier League title race was dashed in the second half of the match against Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Oriol Romeu managed to draw the Saints level after 24 minutes, cancelling out Eden Hazard's early opener, but Claude Puel's side were unable to cause an upset at Stamford Bridge.

Gary Cahill nudged the Blues ahead and after the half-time break, Chelsea wrapped it up with a further two goals - both scored by Diego Costa.

Former Blues left-back Ryan Bertrand managed to find the back of the net with a header, but it proved to be a 94th-minute consolation goal for Southampton, who left the stadium as 4-2 losers.

Now it is up to Tottenham to keep up the pressure on Chelsea as the four-point gap has been stretched to seven ahead of tonight's clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

It will not be an easy game for Mauricio Pochettino's men as Palace have beaten Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks.

Including the game against the Eagles, Spurs have five more matches to play before the season is out, with fixtures against Arsenal, West Ham United, Manchester United, Leicester City and Hull City coming up.

After being pushed back in the title race, some Tottenham fans have lost their optimism, while others believe that it is not over just yet.
