According to reports in the Daily Mail, Manchester City are closing in on the club-record £60m signing of Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva.

The 22-year-old was a target for a number of clubs all across Europe after playing a huge part in his side’s Ligue 1 title win and progression to the semi-final stage of the Champions League, but it look as though Pep Guardiola’s men have won the race for his signature as he is set to undergo a medical on Friday.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with the Portugal international – who scored 11 goals and provided a further 12 assists in all competitions this season – and the news will undoubtedly come as a blow to Blues boss Antonio Conte as he looks to retain the Premier League title and have a real crack in Europe next term.

Chelsea supporters were quick to have their say on the story via social media, with many gutted that they had missed out on Silva, and others worrying they could be left behind in the transfer market this summer.
