Chelsea fans desperate for Fabregas to stay

After Cesc Fabregas put in an impressive performance against Middlesbrough on Monday night, Chelsea fans are even more convinced that he should be part of Antonio Conte’s squad next season.

The midfielder has had to settle for a bit-part role throughout the majority of the campaign, starting just 11 Premier League games in total, which has led to rumours about his future.

On 15 occasions he has come off the substitutes bench, but it is in recent weeks where he has really caught the eye.

In his last three league outings, Fabregas has made four goals, one of which he created in just an eight-minute spell during the Blues’ 3-0 win over Everton almost a fortnight ago.

Against Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge, the midfielder played a rare 90 minutes, nabbing two assists, totting up his tally to 106 in the Premier League, 25 fewer than Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.

At first, Opta awarded Fabregas just a single assist after it was deemed that his ball deflected off Fabio before reaching goalscorer Diego Costa, but it was later given to the former Arsenal and Barcelona man.

The 3-0 victory over Boro means that Chelsea will wrap up the title if they defeat West Bromwich Albion on Friday.

Chelsea fans showed their delight in Fabregas’ performance by voting him man of the match via the club’s official Twitter page.

As well as receiving 69% of the vote, the midfielder received plenty of praise from fans.
