Chelsea fans disagree with Matic as he plays down FA Cup goal

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has played down his wonder-goal from Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur, but the fans are not having any of it.

The 28-year-old is not generally among the goals given that his defensive attributes outweigh his attacking ones, but he created something special at the weekend.

The game was an entertaining one at Wembley, with six goals being scored before the full-time whistle.

Tottenham dominated large portions of the clash as they came from behind twice to keep Chelsea on their toes.

However, Antonio Conte’s men took it up a notch in the final quarter of an hour as Eden Hazard scored five minutes before Matic’s winner – a thumping long-range effort that smashed in off the crossbar.

The 4-2 victory for Chelsea means that they will contest for their eighth FA Cup trophy in a Wembley showdown against London rivals Arsenal.

The result could also give them a psychological edge over Tottenham in the Premier League title race as they head into their final six fixtures with a four-point lead.

After the game, Matic was asked about his goal, but he played it down by describing it simply as “nice”.

The reaction from his teammate Kurt Zouma suggests that it was a strike worthy of a better adjective…
