Nathan Ake’s long-term future at Chelsea does not seem set in stone given that he has spent the majority of his time at the club out on loan.

After joining the West London outfit’s academy in 2011, the Dutchman made his debut in 2012 before having loan spells at Reading, Watford and Bournemouth.

Ake impressed down on the South Coast in the first half of the season, starting eight Premier League games for Bournemouth in a defensive role and even contributed with three goals in 10 appearances.

The young player was recalled by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte in January, and even though featured just five times in all competitions, he was trusted to start as part of the three-man defence in the Blues’ 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final.

Ake, who can play across the back or in a defensive midfield role, has been speaking this week about how he has matured both on and off the pitch this season.

A report in The Guardian claims that Bournemouth will try to sign the Dutchman on a permanent deal this summer as part of a double £30m swoop for him and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

According to a large number of Chelsea fans, though, they are keen for him to stay.
