Chelsea got their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start as they thrashed Qarabag FK 6-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, but Blues fans were not impressed with captain Gary Cahill’s performance.
The Blues skipper returned to the starting line-up after serving a three-match suspension for the red card he picked up on the opening day of the Premier League campaign against Burnley, lining up alongside Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen in the three-man defence.
The west London were making their return to Europe’s elite club competition after a one-season absence and it took them just six minutes to find a way past the Azerbaijani champions when Pedro scored.
Davide Zappacosta, Azpilicueta, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Michy Batshuayi and an own goal from Maksim Medvedev rounded off the win for Antonio Conte’s side, who in truth had little to do defensively.
Cahill did pick up a yellow card for a reckless challenge in the 16th minute though, and Chelsea supporters were quick to slam his for his showing via social media, with some saying that the England international "needs to stay on the bench" for their future fixtures.
