Chelsea introduced themselves to the Champions League after a year away with a comfortable victory against Azerbaijani outfit Qarabag.
Stamford Bridge was full of excitement before kick-off, with the fans having to wait patiently for the return of Champions League football. And it didn’t take long for the Blues fans to celebrate with Pedro netting after just 5 minutes. Davide Zappacosta netted a second in the 30th minute, before Cesar Azpilicueta, Tiemoue Bakayoko and a Michy Batschuayi brace in the second half gave Chelsea a comfortable 6-0 victory.
While the opposition were not considered among the European elites, it was still an impressive enough performance to indicate to the rest of Europe that they are serious contenders for the Champions League this year.
However, Antonio Conte’s men face a tougher challenge in gameweek two, when they travel to Spain to face Atletico Madrid.
In the wake of their team’s impressive result, Chelsea fans took to Twitter to express their delight…
WHAT A PERFORMANCE. Batman showed up, Zappacosta scored the goal of the season and we showed Europe why we belong in the #UCL. 🔥 #CFC
