Chelsea manager Antonio Conte finally got his summer spending underway as the club announced the signing of German international defender Antonio Rudiger from Italian side Roma on Sunday afternoon.
Embarrassing announcement gimmicks aside, there is a lot to be excited about for the champions, as Conte looks to build a squad capable of taking on the Champions League as well as undertaking a strenuous defence of their title.
Although the Blues were solid at the back last season, after the switch to play three in the middle, with the added burden of European fixtures in the campaign ahead, it was vital that the powers that be in west London made strengthening at the back a priority.
The Rudiger deal seems far from the end of said strengthening, with Conte still in pursuit of Juventus defender Alex Sandro and industrious Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Having signed for the club, £21.25m-rated Rudiger sent a message to his new fans from their Cobham training centre, complete with new kit, and it has gone down a storm with the Stamford Bridge support…
