Chelsea suffered a surprise 3-2 Premier League opening day defeat to Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and Blues fans were critical of striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgium international was given a rare start with the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro missing through injury and Alvaro Morata left on the substitutes’ bench, but the hosts were instantly put on the back foot when Gary Cahill was sent off in the 14th minute.

The Clarets led 3-0 at the interval thanks to a Sam Vokes brace and a fine Stephen Ward strike, and Batshuayi was replaced by Morata on the hour-mark.

The Spaniard took just nine minutes to make his mark and even though Fabregas then picked up a second yellow late on, David Luiz scored two minutes from time to give Antonio Conte’s men hope that they could snatch a draw, but it wasn’t to be.

Chelsea supporters were quick to have their say on the showing of Batshuayi via social media, with the majority of them slamming the 23-year-old.

While some are keen for him to be benched again, others want the club to go further and sell him.
