As the weeks pass, Chelsea’s decision to recall Nathan Ake from Bournemouth over the winter and then reject an offer from the Cherries to re-sign him as the deadline approached looks more and more odd.
The Dutchman had impressed on the south coast and was playing regular football, so many believed that Antonio Conte’s decision hinted that he would have a role to play at Stamford Bridge, but we’re now in April and he’s made only two outings, both in the FA Cup.

With Bournemouth the Blues’ opponents this weekend, questioning in the pre-match press conference came around to Ake and his role at Chelsea, to which Conte responded in a defensive manner. The Italian maintains that bringing Ake back was the right call and that his attitude has been “excellent” since his return.
Naturally, the above tweet gained plenty of attention and a lot of fans have reacted negatively to Conte’s words…
