Atletico Madrid’s summer transfer plans were thrown up in the air this week and it has had a knock-on effect.
The Independent recently reported that the Spanish club were interested in re-signing Diego Costa, who left them to join Chelsea in 2014.
It is believed that Atletico were only willing to fork out £20m for the striker, but now they are unlikely to make a move considering that they are not permitted to register players until January 2018.
The blow came on Thursday when the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld FIFA’s transfer ban, which was implemented after Atletico illegally signed underage players to their academy.
Costa was once linked to the lucrative Chinese Super League, but after losing the FA Cup final to Arsenal last weekend, he claimed that he would only leave the Blues for Atletico, reports The Telegraph.
Chelsea fans think that the controversial Spain international will now stay at the Bridge.
