Chelsea stars react to massive win over Middlesbrough

Whereas Tottenham Hotspur fluffed their lines at the London Stadium last Friday, Chelsea continued their title push on Monday night with the calmness and consistency we’ve come to expect from Antonio Conte’s side this season.

Indeed, the Blues hosted a relegation-bound Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge and compelled the Riverside Stadium outfit to a year in the Championship, going through the motions in what proved to be a relatively routine win for the Premier League’s pace-setters.

Chelsea took just 23 minutes to open the scoring through Diego Costa, who latched onto a stunning pass from Cesc Fabregas and then doubled the lead after half an hour through Marcos Alonso. Nemanja Matic then produced a second-half strike to rule out any remote chance of a shock comeback to preserve Boro’s Premier League status for at least another weekend.

Chelsea have now extended their lead at the Premier League’s summit to seven points – meaning a victory over West Bromwich Albion on Friday will win them the 2016/17 title.
