Chelsea supporters want Cahill replaced as captain

Gary Cahill’s first Premier League match as Chelsea’s official captain ended in disaster at the weekend as the centre-back was sent off in the 3-2 loss against Burnley.

A Chelsea team without a number of key players suffered defeat on the opening weekend, and led to more suggestions of discontent with manager Antonio Conte.

Cahill will now be banned for Chelsea’s next three league matches after the red card, whilst midfielder Cesc Fabregas will also miss this weekend’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur after picking up two yellow cards in the clash at Stamford Bridge.

Cahill was only confirmed as Chelsea’s new captain this summer following the departure of club legend John Terry, but there are many supporters that feel that David Luiz should instead be handed the honour.

Luiz is currently in his second spell with the Blues after returning from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, and it would be fair to say that the all-action Brazilian is popular with the club’s fans.

Cahill was excellent last season as Conte’s side won the Premier League title, but Luiz is seemingly a lot more popular with the Chelsea fanbase.
