Crystal Palace know that if Swansea City lose to Everton on Saturday then their Premier League status is effectively secured for another season despite their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Having picked up positive results against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in recent weeks, Sam Allardyce’s men would have been quietly confident ahead of their trip to the Etihad on Saturday, but they came away on the end of a thrashing.

It means that they lie six points above the bottom three with the Swans due to host the Toffees at the Liberty Stadium, and that gap could be closed to just three points if Paul Clement’s side win and Hull City take at least a point from their clash against already-relegated Sunderland at the KCOM Stadium.

Eagles supporters were quick to plead with Everton to pick up all three points in Wales via social media, in order to boost their own survival hopes.
