Current Man United duo compared to Yorke and Cole

After scoring twice on his Premier League debut for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, Romelu Lukaku spoke to MUTV about his relationship with teammate Marcus Rashford.

It was Rashford that provided the assist for Lukaku’s first of the match against West Ham United, and the duo caused the Hammers all sorts of problems in Man United’s 4-0 win.

Lukaku revealed that he had formed a close bond with Rashford since arriving at the Theatre of Dreams earlier this summer, and that relationship has already been present on the field.

Man United’s official Twitter account published the quotes from Lukaku on Monday, with the Belgian speaking glowingly about Rashford’s contribution in the thumping win over West Ham.

As expected, a number of Man United supporters responded to the post, and there were some that were keen to compare Lukaku and Rashford to Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole, who struck up a famous relationship at Old Trafford between 1998 and 2001.

Yorke and Cole scored 53 goals in their first season as a partnership, helping Man United land a famous treble.

Rashford and Lukaku have some way to go if they are to be considered as the new Yorke and Cole, but Sunday’s performance against West Ham was certainly a good way to start.
