Everton boss Koeman gives Barkley ultimatum, fans react

Everton manager Ronald Koeman has issued an ultimatum to Ross Barkley and now the fans have had their say on the matter.

The midfielder impressed on the pitch during the Toffees’ 4-2 victory over Leicester City at Goodison Park on Sunday.

It was a much-improved display from his performance in the Merseyside derby defeat, when he escaped a sending-off for a poor challenge on Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren.

As well as all eyes being on Barkley’s contribution on the field, fans have been wondering whether or not the 23-year-old will sign a new contract.

The midfielder’s current deal expires at the end of next season, and the manager publicly stated after the weekend’s match that the club will sell if Barkley opts against signing a new contract.

Sky Sports quotes Koeman as saying:

“We offer him a new contract, and then [there are] two possibilities. One, he signs that contract, if he doesn’t sign that contract then we need to sell the player. It’s simple – it’s not so difficult in my opinion.”

That means that the midfielder could be out the Goodison Park exit gates this summer as the club will not want to let him leave on a free when his contract comes to an end.

With Romelu Lukaku also yet to tie himself down to the club with a new deal, there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding Everton’s best players.

After this latest development, fans have given their views on Twitter.
